Let’s Talk About SEO – I’ll Try to Make It Interesting

SEO is exceptionally important – your website will not rank in the search engines unless there has been considerable thought put into a SEO strategy. Now, some of you may think that SEO is just a trick so that we freelancers can earn a living. Well, truth is, there is no trick involved here. Far from it! A website that is going to last the test of time in the high-ranking stakes of search engine land needs strong SEO. There are those fast pacers out there that think, “oh, I’ll just employ every trick in the book and get my website onto page 1”. Yes, that’ll work for a while, but only a short while. In the long term, Google is looking for a strong and sustainable SEO approach. Some of the steps to get to that point are as follows:

  •   Awesome Content
  •   Good Website Security
  •   Technical SEO
  •   User Experience

Strong content is one of the best and honest steps to a healthy SEO website. Combining excellent content with keyword research will take you down the right path to having your site found easily by your customers. This is what you want right? Keep your website secure. Get techy – even just a little bit. Learn about crawlability and how it affects your website and rankings. If you are not the techie type, employ someone who will implement technical SEO. User experience is important for getting your potential customers to stay on your site. Make sure it is fast to load, user friendly, mobile friendly, device friendly, just friendly….. ok? Lastly, but certainly not leastly! Always spend some time analysing the fruits of your labour. There are some amazing tracking features in Google Analytics. These will help you figure how well your website is performing and if it is not up to the test, at least you will know before your competitors and you can make those business saving changes. This is just the tip of the iceberg folks when it comes to SEO. I find it quite fascinating, I love change and this is one sure area that never stays still for long.

Keep your website secure!
